The History of the Shoreline Community Chorale
The Shoreline Community Chorale was founded in 1980 under the auspices of the Shoreline Alliance for the Arts located in Guilford. The founding director was Raymond deLucia. The group has had 5 different directors and as many different accompanists. The group is very fortunate to have Stephanie Gregory as their current director. She is a very talented opera singer who has travelled to several countries as a soloist. Her latest performances were in Rome, Italy. Singing with Stephanie is like having a private singing lesson at each rehearsal.
The group is diverse and come from many areas along the shoreline. Our concerts always have a theme for which the music is planned. This will be our 24th season. In addition to concert programs SCC also has a smaller repertory group. Their music mainly consists of showtunes, Gospel, jazz and other lighter pieces. They sing at venues such as nursing homes and community centers. Also, during the Holiday season, SCC travels to different towns and malls to sing Christmas carols and other holiday music.
Shoreline meets every Wednesday. The Autumn season begins around Labor day and culminates with our two Autumn concerts in November. The Spring season starts with rehearsals in January and performances at the beginning of May. Our underlying theme, and our only requirements for membership, is that one must have a sincere love of singing and be willing to commit to regular attendance at rehearsals.
