The Shoreline Community Chorale

The Chorale will perform its Spring 2010 concert, African Celebration!, on the Connecticut Shoreline on Sunday afternoon, May 2, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. at the First Church of Christ, Scientist, 49 Park St., in Guilford, CT, right on the Guilford Green.

The concert, African Celebration!, celebrates the music of Africa and its many derivatives, from slave songs and spirituals, to sacred and contemporary arrangements. Joining Shoreline Community Chorale for the first time is soloist Angela Clemmons of Shoreline Soul. Angela is a celebrated professional who has recorded and performed with 'greats' such as Ray Charles, John Legend, Celine Dion, Laura Nyro, Michael Bolton, Elton John, Aretha Franklin, Vanessa Williams, and many more. The program will also feature a collaborative ensemble of African percussion, horn and piano. Together, the Chorale and ensemble will perform Missa Kenya (Basler), African Celebration (Hatfield), spirituals, songs of Africa and more.

The concert will also benefit Haitian Ministries, which is in its 25th year of serving the people Haiti to better their lives. Haitian Ministries has a permanent presence in the country and provided early, on-the-ground relief following January's devastating earthquake in Port-au-Prince.
